Atomic Threats In The Baltic Sea Region a talk in English by Falk Beyer from the ATOMIC BALTIC network/project.
Thursday January 15, 6 P.M. Luonto-Liitto, Annankatu 26 A, Helsinki, 5th floor
The Baltic Sea is one of the most radioactively polluted seas in the world.
Chernobyl accident, nuclear weapon tests and reprocessing plants were the
biggest polluters in the past, while these days a number of "civil" atomic
facilities are releasing for ex. big amounts of radionuclides contaminating
the sea. Seven countries are affected: Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia,
Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. Also Russia, Germany and Belarus partly share
the Baltic Sea watershed.
The lecture is supposed to raise awareness on the threats posed by nuclear
power around the Baltic Sea. Also information on anti-nuclear movements in
the Baltic Sea region will be provided.
