European Commissioner for the environment Mr. Karmenu Vella: "Defending pastoralism; towards a European Wolf Plan"

"...experience and scientific evidence show that prevention measures can be more effective in reducing livestock damages than lethal control."

Last May 15th 2018 at the European Parliament, the sheep and goat farmers organized an inter-parliamentary conference to "defend pastoralism". Several MEPs (including the well-known French Green José Bové) demanded the European Commission to protect the interests of the farmers and asked the EC to downscale the wolf's protection.

The EC´s Commissioner for the Environment Mr. Karmenu Vella presented the opening speech with a clear message to European livestock herders:

"The return of the wolf to many parts of the EU is a testimony to the success of our collective efforts to protect the environment and preserve Europe's shared natural heritage." "...experience and scientific evidence show that prevention measures can be more effective in reducing livestock damages than lethal control".
