Stora Enso

 

The Finnish based forest giant Stora Enso has been of great interest for non-governmental organisations over the world for some time now. UPM-Kymmene purchases Finnish old-growth forest timber and has peculiar double standards concerning forest certification in Nordic countries.

Old-growth forests into pulp

Stora Enso is the biggest customer of the Forest and Park Service (FPS). The FPS is the main holder of Finnish old-growth forests, both protected and unprotected. The FPS continuously clearcuts unprotected old-growth forests.
Despite of demands by the customers of Stora Enso, the company continues purchasing old-growth forest timber from the FPS.

Still no FSC in Finland

Stora Enso has FSC-certified its forest holdings in Sweden, but not in Finland.
