Old-growth forests being logged in Eastern Finland:
Reports from Elimyssalo area, Kuhmo

March 1999

Kangasvaara in Kuhmo in March 1999. Hundreds of cubic meters of waste wood and large dead pines along the roadsides. Logging these trees is even against the own environmental guidelines of Forest and Park Service (FPS). Additionally, this kind of timber does not provide economical profit.

This kind of ancient trees are one of the most important elements of old-growth forests. Signs of old forest fires can be seen on the trees.

Despite of regular reports about the malpractices, FPS Kuhmo is continues its persistent habits.
