Old-growth forest destruction in Finland by governmental Metsahallitus (Forest and Park Service) 2001: logging plans in Metsäkylä - area in municipality of Taivalkoski

Old-growth forests in Metsäkylä-area, photographed in summer of 2001 Governmental Forest and Park Service has clearcutting-plans for tens of hectares of old-growth forests in Metsäkylä - area.

Lakes of small ponds will be clearcutted, although Finnish Forest Act lists ponds in natural state as valuable habitats.

Old spruce-forests are rich of dead wood and arboreal lichens. Hundreds of years old Scots pines can be found from here and there. Aspens and other broad-leaved trees increase the biodiversity of Metsakyla - old-growth forests.
