Old-growht forest right by the Salolampi old-growth forest protection area.

This forest is not under protection.

Red stripes in trees indicate a logging to come. According to the holder of these forests, Forest and Park Service, this logging plan was given up two years ago. What will happen to this forest is unclear.

Old-growth forest next to the Metsälä old-growth forest protection area.

Typically the area for protection was not decided by ecological criteria. A threatened three-toed woodpecker Picoides tridactylus dwells in the unprotected forest.
